Donut: Tucker! Are you free on Friday? Like, around 8 pm?
Tucker, already skeptical: Yeah?
Donut: What about you, Wash?
Wash, feeling the beginnings of a shenanigan: Yes…
Donut: Great! Because I’m not. You two go on without me. Enjoy your date!
Tucker:
Wash:
Wash: Did he just—?

RvB 20th rewatch: s12
Aaaagahhahhsjshaj the mid point to the end…. Fucking agony
I never noticed the cabose written in bullet holes on the wall. Nice reference.
“I AM FUCKING AWESOME” that single moment made me fall in love with Felix…. Yeah that didn’t last
“Yay I have friends!” Me too Caboose
“You’re oddballs that don’t exactly fit in” I feel like the Chorus trilogy is just a love letter to what these characters represent to… well people like me who found comfort in a group of loser assholes finding strength and connection in each other
There is a warthog that is absolutely freaking out in the background AGDKHAKSHS
AYO Ray and Michael cameo!!!
SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER
Grif’s mental breakdown
Hmmmm thinking about Locus and Felix not being able to return to normal life after the war…
AAAAAHHHH THEIR STRENGTH IS THEIR IDIOCY
I do feel that sometimes they overuse animation in this season… I think animation should be reserved strictly for the most necessary and funniest of bits and bad ass action scenes
Caboose gets to be the one with a good bad idea!!!!
WHY SNOWMAN
DR GRAY!!!!!! MY BELOVED
It really was a big brain move to make the feds actually not evil at all and kinda just as pathetic as the rebels
HOLY SHIT HES BILINGUAL PLEASE DONT KILL ME
“You give meaning to meaningless objects and meaningless people and then risk your lives to protect them, where’s the sense in that” I’m telling you this arc is a love letter to what this show means
Gray is unhinged- she fits right in!
Bro just got incinerated
FELIX YOU RAT BASTARD
I felt so betrayed- in hindsight I really should’ve seen it coming but I thought Felix was funny
Yo I never actually caught that Locus hands the grenade to Carolina- for some reason I always thought she just had a grenade on her
CAROLINA BABYGIRL!!!!!!!
YOU FUCK!!!!! (Just so we’re clear that was an absolutely necessary animated bit 👍🏼)
AAAAHHHH EPSILON AND CAROLINA MY BELOVED AHSKHAKSHSKHSKSH
THEYRE SO SILLY
DELTA!!!!!!
THETA!!!!!
I love the fragments ajkdhakshksh
“Just you and me sis” I AM SO NORAML ALANSKLA IA AMANA SNORNSMNSK JAKAHSNLAJANKSJSKSHWKBSKSNKSHWKSHMSK
PSYCHOANALYSIS FOR EVERYONE!!!!!
Love that Caboose is the only one who didn’t do something to the ship
I AM AN EMOTIONAL TIME BOMB Jesus Christ
“I believe he said he was paid in babies”
Lopez a real one for being the only one to remember Doc
Love the conversation between grimmons back at the crash site. nuance about Simmons and leadership or something… if you catch what I mean… Restoration (what who said that)
“MY LIFE JUST FLASHED BEFORE MY EYES!! IT WAS AWESOME!!!” Quoted line
AAAAAHHHHHHH TUCKER AND WASH!!!!!!!!
Dr. Gray my beloved
TUCKER CABOOSE MOMENT!!!
Wash was pretty dumb to just accept Freckles without question but also I never questioned it either so I can’t exactly judge
CABOOSE MY BELOVED AHAJSJAKDHKSJSKDN
SO SHUT UP AND GET OVER IT!!! Caboose finally gets to be the one to tell someone to shut up!!!!!
“Just say you’re sorry” agskahkshskjsksAJGDKAHSKHDKSGSKVDKDJKSN THEY CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER SO MUCH
CHURCH TUCKER MY BELOVED!!!!!
“Seriously? That’s it, no ‘I’m sorry’ nothing?” Carolina I feel you but also if these guys weren’t completely emotionally constipated at all times I probably wouldn’t love them as much
Also Tucker and Church’s little moment of poking fun at Carolina is so cute omg
Trocadero you are truly something to behold
TUCKER YOU ARE THE BEST OF THEM!!!!!!!
Imagine if Tucker and Church had also gotten caught in Locus and Felix’s teleporter… wouldn’t that have sucked please god I already have a big fic I’m planning I don’t need another
COLONEL SARGE
Why is Carolina so damn BIG next the chairman in that picture ajhdkahsj
P.S. suck our balls
Being completely honest I do think s12 is a little bit of the weak link in the chorus trilogy. It’s not bad but I just find more enjoyment in s11 and s13 but it is possibly Tucker at his best GOD I love him… anyway, pain 🙂

👻୧‿︵‿︵ ash vs. evil dead sentence starters
these are quotes taken from the starz series ash vs. evil dead. send in one of the prompts below for my muse’s response. please change pronouns/names where you see fit.
First thing I got to do is see a guy about a book. Must be some spell I can say to undo all this.
The other first thing I got to do is some cardio, ’cause my heart is jackhammering like a quarterback on prom night.
One false move, and I will Second Amendment your brains all over this truck.
We’re not leaving a trail of blood and guts behind us, we’re keeping Michigan moist.
There’s one thing I learned from [name]. Shoot first, ask questions never.
Last time I was here with a girl, I was hopin’ to get laid.
If I’ve learned anything from you, [name], it’s that if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Hey, I’m looking for a friend. He’s, uh, tall, dumb, smells like… bread.
You fought this thing before. Maybe you just got to finish what you started.
Yes, I’m upset. Yes, I’m behind the wheel. Yes, I’m drunk. And maybe my license isn’t the fancy kind from the DMV. But at least I’m drunk!
Without good, there is no evil.
With all due respect, your tiny brain is a lot safer without my problems inside it.
Trust me, once you get jacked in the face, it’ll all click. I can’t even get my nut up to rumble unless I’ve had a good shot to the chin.
Once again I saved the world. Now it's time to get the girl.
Most people go through life thinkin’ they’re totally safe. People like us, we know the truth. Life is hard and dangerous, and sometimes you just gotta chop off somebody’s head to survive.
I kill demons, not people. Unless those people are demons, who look like people. And then I kill people, but they’re not really people, they’re demons. You understand?
Never get between a papa bear and his cub.
What’s out there knows that you’re alive, and it wants you to be… un-alive.
Well, good news I found a piece of pie with no blood on it. Anybody want a bite?
To save those two, I would submit to a prostate exam.
This town is only big enough for one asshole, and that asshole is me.
Sometimes what you think you saw, it’s exactly what you saw.
Someone needs to wash your mouth out, kid. And that someone is me.
Now I’m gonna kill you, just like I killed your father! I didn’t really kill your father, that just kinda sounded cool.
I gotta warn you, you’re gonna want to leave your husband for me, and I can’t let that happen. Family values.
I’m not drunk enough to know if this is good-weird or bad-weird. But I’ll get there though.
I’m going to be like a ninja losing his virginity, quick and discreet.
I told you. A good shot to the face always gets the juices flowin’.
Thanks for the opinion, appreciate it. Now you can take it, turn it sideways, shove it right up the old poop chute.
When you get back to Hell, work on your aim.
Do you know what evil is, [name]? It’s power without fear, without guilt, and without pain.
Hey, good looking. You here to break me out or break me in?
I'm gonna get you pregnant later.
I'd know that caboose from anywhere.
Even if this goes perfectly, there's a good chance you'll die.
Well, [name], it's been fun catching up. Sorry I got to kill you.
Don't you get it? Everybody dies here. It's just a rule.
If once you start down that path, forever, it will dominate your destiny.
Did you just Yoda quote me?
Alright, look, we get this done quick enough, we might have time to stop for churros.
Yeah, well, your cooking was shit.
Yeah, I remember when I was like you. Young, dumb, full of… conflicting emotions.
Sweet musical Jesus, that's your friend? Oh, she's filthy and fine!
She haunts my dreams. Just kidding. She does, though.
Do me a favor will ya, thank your mother for me? She passed her genes down to you in all the right places.
Damn, [name]. Badass.
Why are you covered in blood?
So look, uh, I'm not a grief counselor, but if it's any consolation, I have had to kill and bury loved ones before. A bunch of times, actually.
Oh sure. I'll just sit here with the police officer we tied up and rethink my recent life choices.
Get ahold of yourself, woman!
I'm gonna say a lot of dumb things.

On the subject of what kinds of tattoos RVB characters might have (or if they wouldn't have tattoos at all)...
Grif; we know he's got a Blade tattoo on his neck (I'm imagining it on the back). He'd probably get a few more, but avoid ones that seem too "typical" (he's mentioned several he would DEFINITELY not care for). He might get some on the Simmons-sides of his arm/leg, for the fun of it. I think on the back of his shoulder, he'd get something that matches with Kai, and when they sit side-by-side, it fits together. You just know he'd get a pizza tattoo somewhere (possible even a pizza with a slice missing on one arm, and then the slice over on the other). If he wanted to be all extra romantic about it, he'd find something with Simmons' signature on it, and get it tattooed on his chest, over where the heart is (this is a game, and he's winning). He also might get a traffic cone~
Simmons; he'd be all afraid to do it, but also REALLY wants to seem cool... if he finally goes for it, he'd get something like Pi or the infinity symbol. He might get a nerdy tattoo on his neck to match Grif (the Robin R, since his name matches Dick Grayson, or the Starfleet insignia, or the little up-link patterns from Ghost in the Shell)
Tucker; listen, he's a pain-baby. In a serious situation, when he has to fight or save somebody, Tucker can handle anything, he'll keep going and push through the pain... but in regular situations? Ow, no hurty! However, he'd get something for Junior (like the shape of his handprint when Junior was still tiny), perhaps on one shoulder blade, and on the other he'd get the Alpha and Epsilon symbols (almost left those unfinished, because HURTY, which would have been ironic, since Church keeps dying... but he finally got it done)
Caboose; had to be talked out of getting a HUGE tattoo that just says "I LOVE CHURCH" on his chest. Instead, he got a pale-blue helmet tattoo on his forearm on one side, and a deeper blue helmet tattoo on the other forearm (his and Church's original one), and when he hugs Church, the helmets overlap~
Sarge; never gave himself any down-time for decades, so no tattoos for a long time... when he finally chills, he would get a few for ODST, the Red Team symbol, and a shotgun slapped on him somewhere... maybe something pretty like a sunset scene on his back (he has a sentimental side for things like that). He'd also get a series of lines, in a stripe pattern, of red-brown-maroon-orange-pink-purple, one his bicep (people who see it ask "what Pride Flag is that?")
Doc; not super interested in tattoos... but he might get something like a moon and sun overlapping, like an eclipse, to be all symbolic for him and O'Malley. If O'Malley convinced him to get more, there would be like, a skull next the peace-sign. Doc's also one of those guys who'd get a motivational quote printed on him somewhere (everybody teases him that it's gonna be "Live Laugh Love", but he's not THAT much of a dork)
Donut; an elaborate tattoo illustration of a ribbon and several flowers, maybe on his thigh above his knee, and curves up around his hip, all very PINK~ Also, something that says "God Can't Kill Me" on his arm
Wash; not especially into tattoos, but he might get something on his neck (not over the scars, but around them), like a couple flowers to represent still being alive/growth. On a dare, he might get like, a small road tattoo (black winding stripe over an arm or leg, with the yellow lines down the middle. because it's his armor... and hahaha, car joke). Although he'd like to get something for all his friends he's lost, it feels weird getting a Project Freelancer tattoo (because the program itself SUCKED), or multiple AI Fragment symbol tattoos (it feels in poor taste, after what happened to Maine and the Meta). He would finally pick something like an intricate kaleidoscope pattern full of multiple colors (for the armor of all the friends he's lost, and all the friends he still has) on a shoulder
Carolina; just don't want any tattoos
Church; same. He doesn't care, he'll be the token plain-vanilla one with no ink
Tex; finally got herself that star on her back~
Kai; she's got a matching one with her bro... and also a lipstick kissy-mark on the little dip under her belly, something like cherries/hearts on her chest, small stylized symbols of different drinks on one arm, a crown and the word "PRINCESS" written in fancy font at the small of her back (it was gonna say "Princess Slut", but she decided to be at least mildly considerate to her bro's sanity, since he'd see it any time she had a swimsuit on. prude), "Fuck The Police" on her arm somewhere, and a rainbow that is a gradient- half colorful, half grayscale

I spent the whole day traveling and I thought of a BUNCH of different scenarios for stex characters (mainly GreaseDinah)
In the plane incorrect quotes:
Flight announcements: Please do not tamper with the smoke alarms as smoking is prohibited.
Ashley: “WHAT!”
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Caboose *reading flight announcements*: “What?! I can’t bring my small weapons?”
Joule: “What?! I can’t bring my explosives?”
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Pearl: “I wonder how fast this plane would go just driving on land?”
Rusty: “Pretty fast”
Pearl: “Yeah but how fast exactly ?”
Greaseball: “Pretty darn fast”
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Now the excessive GreaseDinah brain rot:
I think that Greaseball and Dinah are kinda like Jeff and Brittany from Community. Idk why they just kinda suit them in a certain way that just lightly scratches my brain. I love it
GREASEDINAH “PRETTY WOMAN” AU!
Now hear me out!
Greaseball would have money since he’s a champion or whatever. People often hc Greaseball to not have had a great relationship with his dad so that works too. And just how he cares for Vivian would be how he cares for Dinah. Like spoiling her and stuff and just how they act together is just so cute like it would fit them so so well. Now I can’t decide if Rusty or Caboose would be the bell boy, they both kinda radiate bell boy energy. Now I know that I do HAVE to write this now and I will cuz now the idea is just swimming around in my head.
Any thoughts on this AU is greatly appreciated.

I used to think that Caboose being turned into a trucker aligned with autos out to just make the train world burn was a lot more compelling than “lol psycho killer quoting pop culture”
But if him sabotaging Rusty represented the attempted Reagan assassination…. that actually fits perfectly, he did it for irrational pop-culture related reasons
It’s 5 AM and I am suddenly thinking of a theory about how Rusty’s plotline can symbolically represent rail-hostile Reaganite political policies of the 80s somehow taking hold world over, destroying other nationalized rail networks, and Light At The End Of The Tunnel being about them all dying en masse and going to train heaven and that’s why they’re suddenly happy. That’s why Electra is just ~the liberal agenda~ incarnate, and Greaseball is a negative (if not fully inaccurate) caricature of existing railroads
#some things check out a little too well and make me wonder if they were secretive/passive aggressive choices#to undermine the more apparent plot without tipping off alw (who’s all in on that shit lol)#a lot of it is probably inverting the intended interpretation but goddamn it goes from stupid to kind of horrible and genius#my dream production is rapidly turning into “use one of the older versions and stage it to make the message WAY more sinister#and have the characters drop dead one by one at the end

3, 10, 18, and 37 for the RvB questions!
Ooh thank you for asking :3
#3 is who my favorite character is and why I came to that conclusion
Goodness this is a toughie. Felix is my automatic go-to. First off, he was written extremely well (along with the dynamic between him and Locus). Honestly, Felix is a guy I’d like to date (minus the selfish, psychotic tendencies). I instantly fell in love when we actually saw his face. He’s the reason I love the undercut hairstyle now. I won’t lie and say I’m not attracted to him (cuz he does fit the mold of the type of guy I’d date), but I also really appreciate his character development, and he’s a stinky rat boi that I’ve grown to love over the past two years.
#10 is my favorite quotes
A LOADED QUESTION OH MY GOODNESS.
I find myself referencing Caboose most of the time, since his quotes can be used casually in everyday life without a bat of an eye. There’s too many quotes to choose from (they’re all so good) but some of the underappreciated ones:
“FIELD TRIP! WOOOO! WE! ARE GOING! TO A FIELD!” - Caboose, s13
Simmons doing the science log in season 16 where Sarge gets depressed and he’s like “I’m gonna try and console him” .... “Y’all right?” it HITS me every time. Just the tone he says it oeifjeoifjeoifje
“Neat. He just keeps saying neat.” Wash, s15 (literally me every time someone says ‘Neat’)
#18 is favorite fan fictions
MY OWN
lol jk, I do like mine but my favorite outside of that is a Lolix fic about Sam in his senior year at a new school and he takes a theater class and Isaac is a theater NERD and I just sksksksksks IT’S SO GOOD
#37 is favorite Donut specific quotes
The one in S17E1 where he’s talking to Chrovos and she’s like “Something bigger” and apparently “America” is the biggest thing he can think of and I-
I fucking DIED laughing oh my god it was so good, especially with the way his inflection phrased it and the camera zoom to his visor lololol
Again, thanks for asking, I love taking a deep dive in on this stuff c:

172. porky’s railroad (1937)
release date: august 7th, 1937
series: looney tunes
director: frank tashlin
starring: mel blanc (porky, bull), billy bletcher (rival conductor)
frank tashlin’s love of streamline design is incorporated into this fast-paced cartoon about life on the railroad: it’s up to porky and his “percolator on a roller skate” to win a race against an uppity conductor and his streamline shoe-in.
the typography lettering the animated title card melt away to reveal a rather complex steam train, chugging along to a merry score of a stalling favorite, “california, here i come”. as to be expected with frank tashlin, we’re treated to close-ups of the train (usually in conjunction with the music score): bells, whistles, wheels and all. some footage of the train itself has been reused time and time again, dating as far back as the buddy era, but the close-ups and camera angles add a layer of freshness to it. the train hurtles straight towards the audience, labeled triumphantly “the 30th century limited -- the railroad’s crack train”, a take on new york central’s 20th century limited train.
for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. iris in to the antithesis of the crack train, a sluggish, bulky locomotive named “toots”, headed by porky pig himself. tashlin takes a job towards hi (least) favorite porcine as the text narrates: “the 15th century unlimited - also a crack train. everything cracked -- including the engineer”. the typography is expertly done, the “15th century” lettering done in an old, archaic font. it’s all too easy to take font for granted these days--remember, these are all hand-painted letters, including title cards!
porky and his crack train toots are headed straight for piker’s peak, a daunting mountain whose height is pronounced in camera pans. the camera pans up a layout painting of the mountain, and then we get a wide-angle distance shot of the train itself attempting to chug forth. to assert the unreliability of the train and its speed, or lack thereof, porky observes a snail scaling up the mountain at lightning pace in comparison. finally, the train stalls out all together.
cut to an overhead angle of porky inside the conductor’s booth, where he reaches into a compartment and withdraws a pepper shaker (a brief closeup of the pepper shaker dispelling any confusion as to what’s in the pig’s hand.) with that, porky shakes the pepper shaker over a burning candle situated where the engine is--note his tail uncoiling and recoiling with each shake--and, predictably, the train begins to sneeze its way uphill, porky giving his blessing with a polite “gesundheit.”
soon enough, the sneezes grow rapid, and the train speeds over top the mountain like it was nothing. a habit of his, tashlin gets a bit too trigger happy and cuts too quickly for the gag to sink in--the caboose and a few of the box cars actually fly off the tracks on account of the speed. props for conveying such fast speeds, but it’s a little too fast, a problem area of tashlin’s at times. nevertheless, we’re greeted with more layouts of the scenery, motion conveyed by a camera moving closer to the backgrounds. at one point, the train even goes through a very short tunnel. the camera movements of the early LT cartoons can be janky at times, but here they’re conducted very well.
next, a bird’s eye view of porky’s train traversing a number of intertwining tracks. whoever animated this next scene, my hat is off to you--the boxcars all weave in and out of different tracks in a rather short yet complex bit of animation before realigning on one single track. very well executed and very fun, just one of the few scenes that make me say “i’m glad i didn’t have to animate that!”
unbeknownst to porky, however, is a train hurtling right in his direction. porky finally takes note, and hurriedly pulls his train up to an adjacent track just by a depot. however, the caboose is still on the track. at the very last minute, he manages to squeeze in and pull foreward JUST as the train roars by, giving an audibly “whew!” of relief (which i believe is bob bentley animation.) the layout of the two trains “colliding” is nice, but the scene itself has some execution issues: porky pulling up is a bit too quick and looks comically unnatural, and the odd crunching sound effect makes it sound as though the oncoming train actually did collide with the caboose.
porky doesn’t have much time to relax as he’s back on the rails. even tugging on the whistle wildly does nothing to alert the obstacle in front of him, yet thankfully he manages to squeal to a stop. he’s greeted with an obstacle that has haunted cartoon characters for years: it halted oswald in 1927 with trolley troubles, it plighted mickey and minnie in 1928 with plane crazy, it stopped bosko and honey a mere two years later in sinkin’ in the bathtub, and now porky is up to battle: a cow lying in the middle of the tracks.
carl stalling switches from “california, here i come” to a slow, lumbering yet fitting rendition of “rural rhythm” to accommodate the lazy cow chewing on some grass. the animation of the cow is rather amusing--her tail is high in the air, her exaggerated cycle of chewing is great, and the detail of her haphazardly cracking an eye open to pay porky any mind is another plus.
stepping off the train, porky opts to bargain with her with a polite tip of the hat. “excu-uh-excu-uh-pardon me, uh-muh-meh-missus cow, will you eh-keh-keh-kindly get off the t-teh-eh-teh-track?” despite his efforts, coupled with another tip of the hat and a smile, mrs. cow stays right put, barely acknowledging porky’s presence. porky’s attempts to make pleasantries quickly fade away in favor of a more hostile attitude, telling her to amscray (putting the “pig” in “pig latin”, i see!) and calling her a mess of T-bones, all while pushing her from behind.
finally, the cow does step off the tracks on her own, prompting porky to fall flat on the tracks as she lazily stalks away. porky fumes as he marches back onto his train, ranting about how cows like her give milk a bad name, how she can’t give sweet milk with a sour puss like that, etc.
enter the bull. the bull’s entrance is great: i love the bristling hairs, the assertive glare at the camera, the missing tooth, the flared nostrils. stalling’s score of “rural rhythm” is also wonderfully moody and alert. the bull marches across the tracks and hides behind a bush, with only its tail exposed. porky, not typically known for his intelligence, thinks it’s the cow from before and grows confrontational. “so, you weh-won’t walk, eh? i'll sheh-show you, you feh-four-legged eh-peh-piece of hamburger!” porky tugs on the aggravated bull’s tail before cursing at the bull (which is just dialogue reversed. reversed, the dialogue is “...toots, old gal. don’t pop your...” you can hear a comparison here.) the bull grunts, causing porky to rush back to his train and hurtle across the tracks in a flash. don’t quote me on this, as i’m not 100% sure, but i believe the animation of porky and the bull may be joe d’igalo...?
spark the ever prevalent Tashlin Montage: up-angles of disjointed hands tapping away on a telegraph to communicate the message (that comes out on a paper strip) “stop porky’s train”. more cinematic angles of brakes being pulled, barriers being put up. porky himself screeches his trusty train to a halt, waiting outside the depot as a paper rolls across a wire line to him. he grabs it and observes the news:
“streamline train” is highlighted, and sure enough, we fade to meet tashlin’s streamlined fantasy, a sleek feat of modern architectural design barreling down the tracks, named THE SILVER FISH. there’s a nice little intricate piece of animation as the train weaves closer into view, the conductor tipping his hat to the audience with a commanding grin.
elsewhere, porky bids his train a tearful goodbye. “au rev-v-vo... au rev-v-v... au rev-v-v--goodbye, teh-t-toots old gal. parting is seh-seh-such sweet seh-seh-sorrow...” however, william shakespig has little time to mourn his loss, for the silver fish itself comes whipping into place in the adjacent track, nearly knocking porky off his feet in the process.
ever the good sport, porky marches over to greet the conductor (towering feet above him) and wish him good luck. as he sticks his hand out, “mr. silver fish” reaches down and grabs porky, shaking him vigorously. the animation being shot on one’s paired with mel blanc’s near-incomprehensible cries for help pair together for a nice gag. porky flops to the ground, his lowly status only confirmed as the conductor (voiced by billy bletcher) regards his train: “saaay, what is that? a percolator on a roller skate?” the train deflates from the insult, coupled with bletcher’s signature laugh.
volney white animates porky’s close-up as he mutters to the audience “i’ll buh-be-beh-be-bet my eh-t-teh-t-tootsie can beh-beh-beat his old eh-seh-seh-eh-seh-silver fish.” the camera pans out as the conductor lurches into view, picking up porky by his tail and giving him a few pokes in the eye stooges style as he sneers “oh yeah? it’s a bet. we’ll have a race and see!” volney’s animation is very well executed, very dimensional.
fade to reveal both trains on adjacent tracks, complete with a referee toting a starter pistol. tashlin’s need for speed is unmistakable--as soon as the referee fires, the silver fish rockets off in a cloud of smoke, leaving porky’s old train tangled in a pretzel (complete with a score of “you’re a horses ass.)
the cartoon, at least for me (i am a tad biased on account of my unabashed love for porky), has been rather enjoyable up to this point, but here’s where things get sour. it’s literally 5 seconds, but enough to be incredibly uncomfortable and infuriating: the silver fish rushes past a woodpile (explicitly labeled as such), revealing a black caricature sitting beneath it. the gag itself is based off of an incredibly racist saying synonymous to “a fly in the ointment” or “a skeleton in the closet”--it’s in extremely poor taste and more than uncomfortable. i love frank tashlin, he’s one of my favorite directors, but this leaves a sour taste in my mouth, even if it was 83 years ago.
nevertheless, the silver fish speeds through a tunnel with such frightening speeds that it actually turns the tunnel inside out--the animation is a bit matter of fact, and thus the gag doesn’t reach the amount of potential as, say, porky pulling his entire garage inside out, but working with a tunnel also poses flexibility issues. it’s easier for a garage to appear rubbery than a tunnel. the silver fish screeches to a halt near a harbor as the bridges raise to let a boat through. it is then when a fish caricature of mae west pops out of the water, spotting the silver fish and cooing “oh boy, what a man!” the tashlin looney tunes shorts of the 1940s would use burlesque and sex comedy as a main topic for lampooning--this is a neat little precursor to that.
porky finally gets his share of screen time, chugging along frantically. the animation of him pulling on the whistle is incredibly smooth--judging by the complexity of the train and the thickness of porky’s eyebrows, i’d wage this as bob bentley animation. the bridges raise to pass another ship through, the S.S. leon. yes, as in leon schlesinger, who was actually a boatsman! according to a 1939 trade paper, schlesinger was a skipper--he’d bought actor richard arlen’s yacht (named dijo) and rebranded it as, fittingly, the merrie melody. porky’s train rushes right across the bow of the S.S. leon, bringing back a few unwarranted treasures in the process: a life preserver and a singing sailor in a lifeboat (singing “don’t give up the ship”), dangling from pulleys attached to a boxcar.
the temperamental bull from before makes another appearance, watching porky’s train speed by from the hilltops. mel blanc provides the bull’s raspy monologue as the bull recalls his prior experience with porky--”he can’t get away with a thing like that, i’ll show him!”
sure enough, the bull rushes onto the tracks, bellows out a roar, and rams into porky’s train at the speed of light, literally just a mass of dry brushed streaks. the animation of the bull plowing into boxcars like nobody’s business is more than satisfying to watch. the lack of a music score, just the chuffing of porky’s engine, adds a greater burst to the bull’s impact when he makes contact with the train. the bull, as it turns out, does porky a favor: as he collides with porky’s section of the train, the impact is enough to send him flying. that is, flying right over the befuddled head of the silver fish’s conductor. conveniently, porky lands right across the finish line, where he’s met with cheers and applause from the stands. the underdog wins at last.
iris in onto the side of the silver fish. we pan out to reveal the conductor, a happy porky pig waving his hat in the air in a direct parallel to the conductor’s initial debut. despite the upbeat, celebratory nature, we meet a rather morbid end: the camera pans back to reveal a crushed and mangled toots, a sign draped over it reading “headin’ for the last roundhouse”. iris out.
for its time, this is a very fun and lively cartoon. as to be expected in a tashlin cartoon, the camera angles are divine as always, and the fast-paced cutting, although a bit too fast at times, adds a nice bit of exhilaration to the cartoon. the race between porky and the conductor truly does feel like a race and leaves you breathless at parts. carl stalling’s music score is a joy like always, and the backgrounds are beautifully painted. there are some really unique pans and camera angles of just the layouts alone. tashlin has a fine concept of speed--more than fine, really. he serves as a rather suitable competitor to tex avery in that department. in some cases, he may even surpass him. my only true gripe with the cartoon is the incredibly racist gag--it can be easily skipped, it’s very much a throwaway gag that the cartoon’s success doesn’t rely on, but it does sour my glowing review quite a bit.
nevertheless, this is a fun, early porky entry that’s worth a watch. the racist gag is around 5:28-5:33 in the link i provided.

(you can also watch the short on HBOmax if you have it--that’s where i got the screenshots from!)

Ok I don’t have anything on Lina yet, but Wash I got somethin for. I know u were keen on aspect parallels but what about… class parallels!! Wash would be a wonderful Mage of Blood. As we both like Dahni, check out her blood description- it’s perfect for wash! And Mage- Wash is loyal to a fault and fixates on connections and responsibilities. He gets taken advantage of and pushes around in PFL, and then switches when he feels the stronger bond created by Epsilon-
2: In which, after the bonds he thought he had shattered around him, he completely fixated on and considered his primary responsibility. And he takes up responsibilities with the rvbs very fast- and he gets the freedom and fun that he’d always kinda longed for in PFL But was denied! He suffers from being taken advantage of and jerked around with connections, never finding a stable bond, until the rvbs provide him the trust and strength he needs in the new session
3: I’m like the Pepe Silvia meme puzzling out classpect stuff rn thanks for listening; more to come4: Looking on it more and more I feel like Tucker would make a fantastic knight of space- the description of it in the tags you linked me to fit really, really well with Tucker, or at least how I perceive him, especially after Church’s death. He slowly grows to drop his facade and become genuinely confident in himself instead of overcompensating; I’m ignoring his season 16 writing, it felt strange to me. But anyway5: Lina makes a great Knight of Mind I think? At first I dismissed it bc I thought PFL had an abundance of mind, but then I realized I was wrong- it was completely chaotic and illogical, nothing made sense about it. Lina fits Knight of Mind really well, if you slightly alter mind’s application. She was constantly refining her abilities, she was obsessive, but always thought she wasn’t enough- wasn’t smart, logical, emotionless enough, and she put up a front she’s still working to drop in s17
all of this is delicious okay one at a time
a quick contextualization of my thoughts: not to lean to heavily on a single (fan) source, but I really do lean on [this post] a lot when organizing my thoughts for classpects. I love the way it explains each class and aspect in the context of character arcs, which is the angle I typically look by when picking apart characters and what makes them tick overall. so, I’m gonna quote that post A Lot. so:
(this got long!)
Wash: honestly I’m not the most familiar with the mage class, but “realize your own talents and don’t get caught up in self deprecation” mashed with “don’t be apathetic, but don’t be too overly sensitive either” and suddenly I cannot possibly conceive of a counter argument. I’d say by the s17 equivalent of this hypothetical hs au, he’s in the back half of that development track. mage: PFL put him in that “worst of the squad” mindset, despite some evidence of being the most empathetic and enduring light-heart there, which is far from a useless skill). When he gets with the Reds and Blues, he gets to embrace those big sappy speeches about friendship and growth and being there for people and it really really works for him. blood: “don’t be apathetic”: every moment of “what about my behavior made you think I expected to survive” to answering “you can’t just kill everyone” with “why not?” || and then “don’t be too overly sensitive either”: The Screech and his propensity to hold grudges for literal years at a time. But he’s grown so much! Caboose let him have Feelings and Donut talked him down from a grudge (Franklin Delano Donut deserves a freakin commendation for that one btw)Tucker: I gotta think a bit more, but parts of mind still appeal to me for Tucker. back on that post, and bolding the part that catches me: “don’t think of yourself higher or lower than others due to your intelligence; inform others so everyone can understand.” He seems to have this internal flip flop over the series about what he wants – to be average or to be the cool guy, or to not care or to be in charge. Knights in general have that internal vs external presentation conflict, so whatever aspect we’re not really in danger of losing that, but… breath maybe? (”learn to be assertive, not aggressive or passive”) He tends to kinda go with the flow of things. “Fight these Reds now, go on the Alien Quest now, find the Director now, do what Wash says now, fight this war now” and on and on and on until you hit s15 and he kinda snaps, ready to just freakin murder Temple until Carolina stops him (from taking the same path Wash did but that’s a different meta about parallel character arcs). And then (how I see it) he spooked himself and tried to fall back into being That Guy in s16, who wasn’t even enthused to kill a weird cow beast and could just cruse along through the bs nightmare of his life by cracking bad jokes and living ridiculously. but he’s not that person anymore so the attempt comes off as… well, like that. this weird blend of still kinda used to being in charge but still unwilling to face up to what he does wrong because it hurts too much to look at and there are other weird things he could be doing if he literally takes two steps in any direction. Or at least that’s how I parse it.
Carolina: The whole things just feels spot on. I'd considered it in partial for Tucker up there, but "don’t think of yourself higher or lower than others due to your intelligence; inform others so everyone can understand" is just. spot on. literally a whole thing in season 10 was that the others didn't trust her because she wouldn't tell anyone what was happening. Also all the things you said.
OKAY THAT THING I SAID BEFORE ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CAROLINA AND TUCKER i SEE? (besides armor color) They're knights. They're both knights. They do That Knight Thing that “please be yourself” thing-- just. yeah. that.

RELAPSE PREVENTION
I was a CHRONIC RELAPSER. Oh, how my brain seemed to want what I knew I could no longer allow my brain to have. I knew that alcohol was Toxic. It was killing me, so I guess it fits snugly into the definition of a Poison. Just as snake venom is used in the production of antitoxins, alcohol seemed to me that it could salve the wounds that it created.
After all, although rare, there are documented cases of death resulting from severe alcohol withdrawal symptoms. Conversely, experience had shown me, the Relapse King, that so much as a single drink could set off a chain reaction that would have me passing out at the Underwood Hotel (a euphemism for people living under the Boardwalk) again after perhaps days or longer of immeasurable drug use.
As heard many times at A.A. Meetings, if one is run over by a train, it is not the caboose that kills you, it's the first car on the train that does the job. If you don't have the first drink, you can't have the second, the third or the one that kills. For me, in recovery, it's the first drink that could kill me.
Let me note here that I am not an Abstinence Only kind of guy. Drink as much or little as you'd care to. I don't prescribe behavior for others. I abstain and that's the end of the story.
The beginning of my recovery story is captured in the pictured quote: "Every Recovery Meeting is an Intervention between Me and the First Drink."
A child can drown in a few teaspoons of water. I am that child. Alcohol is that liquid. Even if I'm wrong in that assumption, absence of alcohol has led me to an Abundant Life.
"Who could ask for anything more?"

RvB 20th rewatch: s5
Final season of Blood Gulch let’s goooo!!!
Honestly can’t blame Church for his reaction to Junior lol
I CANT FEEL MY TORSO
“My body is trying to die” me when I’m on my period
I’m gonna start using the international dibs protocol
DONUT IS CHURCH’S FAVORITE RED
THERE IS NO ELEVEN YOU FUCKING WHORE
KAKAINA!!!!!!!!!!
She’s so silly. She is the silly girl representation we deserve.
The fat Church jokes are so funny because HE HAS A ROBOT BODY???? bro literally cannot gain or lose weight and that’s all I can think about every time I watch it 😂
Have we ever considered sargenut-
GOOD DAD TUCKER
“there are no regular girls” as a girl I agree
I love that Kai doesn’t even question Church being a ghost
“Whoa, tread lightly dude, tread lightly” and another heavily quoted line for me
Mark your calendars for 2040 for the updated Bible release
So dead serious when I say I’m gonna start using Donuts anti drug lingo when my friends start vaping
CHEX DIVORCED VIBES MY BELOVED
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT CABOOSE PRACTICING FLIRTING WITH TEX AHKDHAKSH
Okay but have we considered texboose crack ship
Caboose is me trying to lie
“I’m like Superman, I know when I’m needed” Tucker you are always needed my beloved son
WHEEZE OMG SIMMONS JUST DROPPED THE MOST AGGRESSIVE “SHUT UP DONUT” IVE EVER HEARD AHKSHAK
Donut writes Harry Potter fanfiction
Church immediately asks about Carolina….. Church the alpha… the copy of the director, Carolina’s father, immediately asks about Carolina. In all his fucked up faulty memories he knows to ask about her… I’m gonna be sick
Tex’s willingness to go along with the time travel bit is so funny
“No I’m saving him in case we ever need him for food” another frequently quoted line.
GOOD DAD TUCKER
Bow chick honk honk
Sarge’s super power is spawning in flags and patriotic singing
“Take a chill pill, don’t have a chill pill take one of them chill strips. You stick it on your tongue it dissolves and you chill” probably my most quoted line from the show. Partially cause my brothers would always say it so I just grew up hearing it even before I watched rvb
“No one is in the state of Wyoming” yet another quoted line
Church being upset when Caboose gets shot is very telling
So is Wyoming using his equipment without Gammas help? That’s wild
TUCKER FINALLY GETS THE SNIPER RIFLE
Hey chicka bum bum
THE HELL IS THAT MUSIC
the Tex stuff at the end is probably the hardest thing to make sense of with all the retcons- like was she just saying all that stuff to try and protect Church… somehow- yeah this is the part I always struggle to fit in with the rest of it
I still enjoy the shenanigans tho
Rip Florida
God I love when O’Malley is jumping from person to person
TEX SAYS GOODBYE G O D I AM IN HELL
And it comes full circle
AND NOW IT IS TIME FOR THE RECOLLECTION!! I am so freaking excited I cannot WAIT!

First hitting screens in April 2003, Red Vs. Blue was Rooster Teeth’s launch into Machinima videos using the Halo series of games. The series would become so popular that it now consists of 18 seasons plus several spin-offs and extra bits of content.
RELATED: Every Halo Game, Ranked According To Metacritic
Because of its nature as a comedy series, the jokes are plentiful throughout the series from Caboose’s stupidity to Donut’s pink armor. With the lengthy stay in the public consciousness, the Rooster Teeth crew made the series full of one-off jokes and running gags. These running gags consist of just a basic line being repeated to the same situations arising every few seasons.
10 Not A Fair Countdown
Throughout the series, the characters will regularly count down their escape, with the twist being that one or more team members will begin their escape before the countdown ends. This has led to several funny moments.
The first time this is done is by Grif when Caboose driving Sheila aims her cannon at them. As Simmons counts down, Grif runs away immediately toward the rocks that cover Blood Gulch. Simmons does the same move to Grif soon after. Members of both sides have subsequently done this to each other.
9 Bow Chika Bow Wow
The first time this Tucker catchphrase is used, it isn’t completed. While invading Church’s story about the Alien in the basement. Tex cuts him off with her gun, causing him to say “Bow Chika Bow Woah.”
The full saying of “Bow Chika Bow Wow” was used continuously as the series progressed, always coming after something Tucker took something as sexual. Notably, others used variations to fit in with Tucker, including Caboose’s version, “Hey-Chicka-Bum-Bum.” While the saying was the bane of Church, it was funny enough for fans of the series.
8 That Doesn’t Seem Possible
In a series filled with AI, aliens, ghosts that aren’t really ghosts, and time travel, there is a ton of skepticism for what can be possible in the series. The first time the phrase, “That doesn't seem physically possible,” is in response to a story by Church about Tex beating a man named Jimmy to death with his own skull.
RELATED: 10 Small Details You Only Notice Replaying The Original Halo
The phrase comes back several times in the series, including the competition between Donut, the mysterious skull, and the wrench for Red Team second in command. The fans also clung to the saying, referencing Jimmy in fan art.
7 “Son Of A-”
Often preceding another entry on this list, the characters are technically at war for most of the series, so there tends to be battles. These battles will often include a bunch of gunfire and the occasional tank or grenade. The latter options end up bringing a widely used catchphrase from the teams.
First uttered as a full sentence when Shelia is first firing on the Reds, then more famously by Church when he is killed by Caboose and Shelia. It is said by nearly every core cast and referenced in the spin-off series as well.
6 How Many Pedals?
The question of why there are insert number of pedals is one that is asked frequently through the series. The first time is by Caboose when he asks “Why are there six pedals if there are only four directions?" while learning how to drive Shelia.
The question would come back several times including by Grif, Jensen, and Tucker a few times. The phrase is switched up across the series, such as when Grif asks why there are only 4 pedals but six directions when driving the Elephant.
5 Do You Wanna Talk About It?
Another speech gag, the question of “do you wanna talk about it,” is found multiple times throughout the series, though more often around Simmons than any other character. It is one of the first lines in the series, said after Grif’s philosophical breakdown of their place in the universe.
The phrase is used more often after a very specific example of something that could be bad, including a story Sarge tells about an uncle, a throwaway while Simmons is infiltrating the Blues, and when Simmons talks about eating his dog to survive winter in an arctic base.
4 Tucker’s Sniper Rifle
In the actual Halo games, the sniper rifle is a rare weapon, and Red Vs Blue keeps that in their canon as well. Though Tucker was promised a sniper rifle from Captain Flowers, the Captain died before fulfilling the promise. This led to Tucker begging for it every chance he got.
RELATED: 10 Hilarious Bungie Memes Only Halo And Destiny Fans Understand
When Tucker does eventually get his hands on the sniper rifle, he ends up shooting and Captain Flowers in the head. While the joke disappeared for long stretches, it was thrown back enough for fans to love it.
3 Fans Of H Sounds
The series has a fascination with words that begin with h, namely the possession sound of "Higakergerk!" and the death sound of "HURK, bleaugh.” The first sound is heard whenever Church or Tex take over a body to pilot. Victims of the “higakergerk” sound include Sarge, Lopez, and a command solder in season 13.
Church is the first to utter the death sound of “hurk, bleaugh,” but the sound would be used repeatedly throughout the series. It made the deaths more funny than sad in most cases.
2 Caboose Kills
With the highest team killing count, Caboose is known for his accidental team kills that mostly involve Church. Caboose has blown Church up multiple times, shot him in the head while in Sarge’s body, and turned on a bomb inside of him.
Church isn’t the only victim of Caboose’s as he has dropped a freight container on Tucker and crippled South. The gag continues as Command is shown to have a keyboard shortcut for noting Caboose’s team kills in the form of “Ctrl+F+U.”
1 Why Are We Here?
One of the most quoted and referenced parts of the entire series, the question of “why are we here?” has spanned the entire series. Introduced as the first line of the series, and the name of the first episode, the characters tend to mistake the question in practical use for that of philosophical use.
The line became so popular that it extended outside of Red Vs Blue, appearing as a trophy in Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and in another of Rooster Teeth’s shows, Gen:LOCK.

possible warning for long post! and #rvb season 15 spoilers maybe "Happy birthday, Isaac. Daddy sure does love his little big man." -Horizon: Zero Dawn dont let the quote fool you, this is about Lavernius Tucker and Michael J Caboose. Caboose totally thinks of Tucker as his dad. After Junior was born Tucker had was obvious a father, right, but Caboose tends to confuse things that get even slighty complicated. So Tucker being a dad became Tucker Is A Dad became Tucker-Dad - whose dad? a dad has to be someone's dad. my dad? ...my dad- became Dad Tucker and finally just (Dad) Tucker. These two are the only original BGC blues left after (a year each season? 15 years?!???) all these years and they've clearly developed a strong friendship especially in recent seasons but in Caboose's mind I think it's more than that. Caboose's opinion on Tucker never seems to really stick because while he was initially competing for Church's attention, Tucker has proven himself to be a consistent and caring presence in his life unlike Church and even Wash. Tucker's still mean to him but it lacks the disdain and heat from earlier, and at this point when Caboose says he doesn't like Tucker its just reflex from so many years and for Caboose adaptation is hard. When Caboose was reassigned the new Blue Team didn't know how to handle him and he killed/hurt a bunch of them so they locked him up. Jones still got killed but I think thats getting into the darker side of Caboose of which no one in fandom speaks. (we should tho I think Miles Luna said he was a nearly unhinged murderer or something? and thats terrifying based on what we know but it could...get worse?) Caboose listens to Tucker when he knows its important and Tucker cares about Caboose. When Epsilon!Tex was kicking their asses and Tucker told Caboose to help him, he immediately did. But even before that he saved him without being prompted. When fighting the Meta, Tucker ordered him to stay away and to "try not to kill, [Epsilon] on accident" and Caboose just said "okay!" even though, strength-wise, Caboose could have physically fought Maine on more even footing than anyone else. Whether Caboose has the martial arts knowledge to have a Fight Scene is debatable I think, but its a clear indicator that Tucker doesn't want him to potentially get hurt regardless. After being without a team at Valhalla, there is no way Caboose didn't stick to Tucker's side (and Wash's) and try to make up for lost time. He tried to build himself a friend (a body for Epsilon) because he was lonely. He got Sarge and Grif to help him find Tucker because he was lonely. He wanted Tucker around. If he didn't, he could have just stayed in his base with Donut as his "prisoner" or have tried to play with the Reds. Instead he went and found his friend (and still got Epsilon a body and got two friends). He probably spent days living on top of Tucker and literally sleeping on top of him so he couldn't get reassigned in a dream and leave or something because Caboose is like that. Caboose didn't want to end up somewhere they'd just lock him up again (and i'm willing to bet they mistreated him a bit as revenge) and don't know how to handle him. He probably had nightmares and Tucker had to pull double duty comforting Caboose when he was dealing with Wash too. Tucker would warm up milk and put a big marshmellow in it (because he found out the hard way that the little ones can be a choking hazard for Caboose), wrapped him in a weighted blanket, and talk with him until he fell asleep, calling him Mikey and petting his hair. Tucker knows how to care for Caboose as his friend but I think also as a psuedo-parent. GoodDad!Tucker tried to be the best father he could for Junior, and a key skill parents have to have is patience. Caboose requires patience not just because he can be obnoxious but also because words, especially difficult concepts, and strong emotions can overwhelm him. Omega scarred and damaged his brain and he progressively worsened over time (i know the writers said it was for comedic effect). He doesn't understand things and needs them explained many, many, many times. If he doesn't get closure (mostly from Church's dissappearences apparently) he sinks into depression and tries to distract himself with busy work (trying to build a body for Epsilon, digging through rubble to unleash a mechanical pet that he spent a lot of time "training" and making a tiny sombrero for). When Wash semi-fixes his helmet, Tucker is the one to fix his visor which begs the question, how did Tucker know how to do that when I-built-a-capture-unit-Wash couldn't figure it out? Answer: because he's done it before. Tucker is the one that explains thing for him, who helps him remember to do what he would forget. Caboose likes routine- he likes when things go back to being the way they are (at a given moment). I would bet money that Tucker has a routine for Caboose to follow every morning and every night. A specific step-by-step deal: wake up, brush you teeth, try not to kill anyone while you're brushing you teeth, change from pjs into clothes, no you can't wear your pjs under your suit you'll over-heat, etc. Caboose knows it so well muscle memory does most of it for him so he doesnt get lost in remembering a step and if he does Tucker knows- Tucker is ancient. Too old to be Church's best friend- that's me. So after years together Tucker has to have developed the patience of a saint but also a method of caring for his big, slow friend who just needs a little help sometimes. and that's something Caboose will have noticed. Caboose is clumsy and breaks things. His helmet is high on the list of things he could break, and given his refusal to change helmets, it must have been very old and required maintainence for visor upgrades or seal re-fittings or what have you. Alpha!Church was terrible at most things involving hand eye coordination and at being an AI so he wouldn't have been much help, and Caboose has/had (is it still a thing?) a rivalry with Lopez so only Tucker was left as an option. and much like a parent sewing up their kid's torn stuffed animal as the kid sniffled by their side, so too did Tucker repair Caboose's helmet. Tucker tries to give advice as the self-proclaimed "love doctor"- as enbarassingly as any parent asking you "whats the haps" or "w-t-f. why the face" (dad!tucker for me is a lot like phil dunphy). Tucker's word is law. In a "while you live in my house you live by my rules" sort of way, what he says goes. Stay where its safe and dont get shot. Dont shoot me or anybody else this early in the morning. Yes, fine, we can keep the ex-Freelancer but you're walking him and cleaning any wet stains in the carpet and if i find any hairballs i swear to god. (if Freckles didn't have guns he'd've been all over that). and Caboose acts like a teen who says "i hate you" but means "i love you" instead. When Tucker nags him now its probably "take the pills Grey gave you" or "dont run around the pool" and "run AROUND the pool damn it, its on FIRE! NO NOT THE SLIDE ITS PLASTIC AND FULL OF FUMES" and "put your crayons away AND wash your hands and you'll maybe find a cookie on you plate dude" like. Tucker has clearly come to care so much for Caboose, especially in s15 i swear imma cry. Tucker has even been more consistent in his behavior than Wash. Carolina rolled on in and Wash stepped back in line with her for a while, scaring the RedsandBlues. Even separated on Chorus, Tucker was with him. Tucker was by Caboose and on his side the entire time. Tucker was reassigned to the desert and had to go. Even when Omega!Caboose was threatening him, Tucker didn't leave Blue Base. Tucker has never abandoned or left Caboose by his own volition. Tucker looks out for him physically, mentally, and emotionally. Tucker is who Caboose turns to when he wants permission for a pet, to fix the boo-boo on his helmet, and to comfort him when he's feeling low. Caboose realizes it on some deeply buried level that Tucker ISN'T his actual dad but has assumed a father-like role, and remained steadfast and loyal while in that role just by caring about Caboose. so in his head whenever he addresses him his mind goes, (Dad), but his mouth says, Tucker. Wash is Team Dad but Tucker is The Dad on the team. i have so many feelings. do my boys justice. where all the fics at? more caboose/tucker friendship and family fics for 2017 please. tucker taking care of caboose. caboose appreciating and loving tucker. please. even just brotherly-fluff. im deprived. i swear i start these intending to make a paragraph and instead write a fic outline.
#vehl's headcannons#lavernius tucker#michael j. caboose#rvb#rvb15 spoilers#no really spoilers but just in case?#please i love my boys so much#and they want to be loved

So I’ve been meaning for a while now to write up a post with My Complete Thoughts On Wash. Though really, it all boils down to just one thought:
Wash is a semi-feral Hufflepuff.
LET ME EXPLAIN. (At nauseating length. And yes, this does end up being about That Interview In The Fan Guide, but not just about that.)
Here’s the thing I’ve always found super interesting about Wash: he is introduced as a cold, paranoid loner who doesn’t trust people. People keep commenting on this all the way through Season 11:
“You guys are some cold motherfuckers.”
“I need to scare some people who are just trying to help me, and then go fight monsters and robots from the future. Freelancer power, activate!”
“You're a paranoid ex-special ops guy who's used to being betrayed on a weekly basis.”
“Aggressive, paranoid, and a little melodramatic - you must be Agent Washington.”
But if you look at what Wash actually does, you notice that he is a compulsive team-player. It’s his default strategy, and it doesn’t change no matter how many times he gets betrayed.
In Recovery One, he recruits South to help him fight the Meta (and gets shot in the back).
In Reconstruction, he recruits the Reds and Blues to help him fight first the Meta and then Project Freelancer (and gets left in prison).
In Recrecration/Revelation, Hargrove initiates Wash’s team-up with the Meta, but Wash--who’s decided that now he’s a ruthless, “last one left alive will talk” bad boy . . . works with the Meta as a pretty flawless team (until the Meta tries to steal the capture unit).
Like, Wash tries to be paranoid. He really does. And he is capable of being a cold motherfucker, like when he shoots South, but he never manages to do it first. “I knew you would do this, Meta,” he says at the end of Revelation, but turning on the Meta first.... doesn’t seem to have occurred to him??
And then once Wash is with the Reds and Blues, it’s really noticeable how his interpersonal strategies revolve around emotional honesty. In Season 11, Wash fixes things with Tucker by sharing his insecurities: “I was one of the worst Freelancers in my squad... I'm new to all of this. I've never really had to lead anybody before.” He fixes things with Caboose by talking to him about his grief and how Wash should have been there with him.
Tucker: Pretty sneaky, Wash. A couple of mushy words, a present, and you're right back up at the top. Washington: Nothing sneaky about it. I meant every word.
In Season 13, he has this conversation with Kimball about the Feds:
Kimball: Agent Washington, I'd appreciate it if you didn't lecture me on how to make friends with the enemy. Washington: The enemy? Kimball: You know what I mean. Washington: We're all on the same side here, Kimball. Have some faith. If you start believing in them, maybe they'll start believing in you.
HUFFLEPUFF. SO HUFFLEPUFF.
I think it’s really clear that Wash’s natural mode is working in a team with other people, and that his ideal way of resolving conflict is by honest communication and... I guess you could call it “emotional reciprocity.” He trust Tucker with an embarrassing story about his past to elicit trust. He thinks Kimball can elicit the faith of the Federal soldiers by having faith in them first.
So where does the “semi-feral” come in?
One of the issues I’ve seen discussed a lot in RvB fandom is Project Freelancer Wash, and how that sweet little muffin can be harmonized with (a) the angry, court-martialed soldier in the fan guide, (b) the paranoid “cold motherfucker” in the Recollection trilogy. I’ve seen people suggest just ignoring the fan guide, so that Wash has a straight character trajectory from sweet muffin to cold motherfucker. And I’ve seen people suggest that PFL Wash is basically a fake persona he adopted to hold onto his second chance.
And, y’know, I’m not here to tell people they are wrong on the internet. I think those are both reasonable ways of interpreting a pretty contradictory canon. But the interpretation of Wash’s character arc that I personally find most compelling is: both sides of him are genuine.
I don’t have a really specific headcanon about Wash’s past, but I do think that he has experienced both being very safe and very unsafe at an early point in his life, and it has left him an extremely binary person. When he is in a group and feeling safe (which I think are pretty much the same thing for Wash), he is 110% committed to the group, and is emotionally open and very trusting. And when he’s not in a group, or has been betrayed by the group he thought would give him safety, he’s 110% in angry survival mode.
Wash in the fan guide interview, who injured a commanding officer, and Wash in the Recollection trilogy, who’s desperate first to burn down Project Freelancer and then escape prison, are the same person. They’ve both been betrayed by a system and a group they trusted, and are willing to do anything to save themselves.
And Project Freelancer Wash, who eats bananas through his helmet? I think he’s the same person too, he’s just among people he trusts right now. He has pretty much the same interpersonal strategies as Blue Team Wash:
Washington: It wasn't your fault, Connie. Connie: Easy for you to say. You didn't drop the ball. Washington: The ball got dropped. We were all there, it's everyone's responsibility. Connie: Dammit, why are you doing that? Washington: What am I doing? Connie: Making excuses for me. I'm not, making excuses for myself. Why are you. Washington: I'm trying to make you feel better. Connie: Yeah? Great. Hey, why don't you go make Carolina feel better? Go pat Maine on the head. See how that works out for you.
He’s trying the same sort of emotional reaching out that he later does with Blue Team, it’s just not working because this is Project Freelancer and he’s bringing a Hufflepuff knife to a Slytherin gunfight.
It’s also interesting, I think, to contrast Wash in PFL with Carolina. They’re the two agents who trust the Project and Director longer than anyone else, until they’re basically forced not to. But Carolina is the one who actually internalizes the ethos of the Project. The Darwinian bloodbath of the Leaderboard is something that meshes really well with her own competitive drive and her willingness to go solo. Project Freelancer is an apotheosis of her worst self, and it’s one of the reasons she gets manipulated so well.
Wash is kind of the opposite. He really does not fit the PFL ethos--in that scene I quoted above, he may not realize it, but he’s basically fighting the entire system of the Leaderboard. He’s insisting to Connie that they all share mistakes and they’re all in this together. During the match with Tex, he recognizes that live rounds on the training room floor are not okay.
But the ways that Wash doesn’t fit with the Project are what make him so easily controlled by it. “Someone should get the Director,” he says, but when Connie says, "Who do you think gave them the ammo?” he just . . . subsides. It’s like he knows on some level that things are messed-up here, but he doesn’t have the emotional vocabulary to express “I kind of trust these people but I’m having some doubts.” For Wash, trust is absolute; he can’t slowly start questioning, as Connie, York, and North all do. He’s all in or all out. He trusts the Director and the Project until his trust is forcibly broken . . . and then he becomes very, very dangerous to them.
